The Terrace Plaza Hotel: History of a Modern Landmark Now on Ebook

Terrace Plaza CoverCincinnati Book Publishing is pleased to announce the release of Cincinnati’s Terrace Plaza Hotel: An Icon of American Modernism in eBook form.  This architectural history, which was written by Shawn Patrick Tubb, was released in print in 2013; it is now out-of-print.  The text focuses on the building’s architectural and interior design, and its role in local and national urban history.  The ebook is illustrated with period color photographs taken by Ezra Stoller, the dean of American architectural photographers.  The foreword is by Aaron Betsky.

Tubb, who has a Master of Architecture and Master of Community Planning from the University of Cincinnati, and a B.A. in Film Production from Bowling Green State University, recently returned from his second relocation to China where he contributed to the design and construction of Shanghai Disneyland.  A traveler at heart, Tubb has lived in many cities across the world including New York, Toronto, Shanghai, Brussels, Mexico City, and Los Angeles. As much as he enjoys moving and traveling, Tubb will always consider Cincinnati “his home town,” he said in an email.

Although Tubb has been occupied with other architectural endeavors, the Terrace Plaza Hotel and its preservation remains important to him. The Terrace Plaza has been vacant since 2008, and plans for future redevelopment are unknown.

“I'm still hoping the building will be rehabilitated in a way that is sensitive to its important place in local and national history,” Tubb said in an email.

Terrace Plaza was a proposed nominee to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in June, according to Cincinnati Business Courier. Although the Ohio Historical Society Sites Advisory Board recommended the nomination and forwarded it to the National Park Service for consideration, a decision has not been made at the time of publication.

This is Tubb’s first book. The manuscript won Cincinnati Book Publishing’s Young Voices Publication Award in 2013. Tubb also won the Cincinnati Preservation Association Education Award for his work.

The Ebook version of Cincinnati’s Terrace Plaza Hotel: An Icon of American Modernism can be purchased through Amazon, iBooks, and Barnes & Noble.
